Hi Tiffany,
This is Mary (Charlie's Aunt). My two boys (Charlie's Cousins) are both on the autistic spectrum. Kevin is only slightly so but Joey is more severely affected and goes to a special school. He is soon to be 17. Although I would never give him full responsibility for a dog. We always had them while the boys were growing up and it was a way to show them how to empathize with another living thing and they did learn responsibility (with assistance) for the dogs. We currently have 2 cats (which Joey loves) and we just got a new puppy named Jack and Joey enjoys spending time with Jack and I at the Park. He was very surprised at people's reactions to the puppy. He could not understand how they could get so excited about him.
