State laws
From Service Dog Training
State laws
All state laws have been updated as of 4 June 2008. I am planning on adding the text of the laws to the pages, as well as adding any laws I can find regarding trainer access and penalties for harassing or injuring service dogs.
This page is meant to serve as a reference for understanding your state laws concerning service dogs and how those laws interact with the ADA. I have provided a summary of the applicable laws of each state, comments on anything that seems worth of comment (such as laws not updated since the 1980's) and a description on how the state laws interact with the ADA and which takes precedent if there is a discrepancy. I have not specifically included laws covering penalties for falsely representing a service animal, harming or killing a service animal, or pedestrian laws unless those laws are the only ones available covering service animals in that state or if they are attached to another law.
Keep in mind that everything on these pages are my own interpretations of the ADA and the state laws and should not be considered valid legal advice. If you encounter an access issue based on a discrepancy between your state laws and the ADA you should contact a lawyer for clarification.
This page is a work in progress and summaries and descriptions will be added as I have time. I will do my best to keep these pages up to date as state laws change, but I make no promises. Check the date edited at the bottom of the page to see when it was last updated.
