Service Dog Training

This page is dedicated to information on things relating to service dogs, their training and issues concerning their use. It describes the training process of my service dog, access problem we have had and things we have done. There is also information for people considering getting a service dog including information for people wanting to train their own dog.

Proposed changes to the ADA's service animal regulations These regulations have just been released! Look for a blog post summarizing the changes to the service animal rules by the end of the week.

This page is a work in progress.

Development on this site occurs intermittently based on my academic schedule. Most updates will likely occur during summer and winter breaks. If there is something specific you would like to see on this site, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

A page on disaster preparedness for service dog users is in development and will hopefully be up and running sometime in November or December. The page will have information on the PETS Act of 2006, how to prepare a disaster plan when you have a service dog, and putting together a disaster kit that will meet the needs of your dog.

Articles coming soon: Taking your service dog to restaurants, Going to the movies with your service dog, Teaching escalators, Teaching a slow ascent on stairs, and hopefully finishing up the article on bracing and balance work.
